somethin ive been thinking abt…..

people get like so wrapped up in the discourse of it all that i’m so focused on like important but really nuanced issues within the lgbt community and also in terms of feminism but like….. idk theres still more simple issues to tackle?? not saying we should place aside the tinier ones, but like i’m working at an ice skating summer camp teaching kids to skate, and i was with this little boy who was around 4 years old, and he was watching this male figure skater do a spin and he asked me, “how can he do that?” and i said “well when you practice a lot you can get faster at spinning and do cool tricks” and the little boy was like “no, how can he figure skate? i thought only girls figure skated?” and i dont know why i was so shocked? i mean he was a really little kid he was like 4 but still kids pick up on things, like gender imbalances in sports i guess….. so i was like, “no, girls can play hockey and boys can figure skate…. see, lets go talk to my friend whose a boy who both figure skates and play hockey” and then we went and talked to this 8 year old girl in hockey camp…. and the little boy was like “oh” and then just carried on his merry way. idk it was interesting for me

also unrelated but i finally sent my coach a long winded like 7-8 paragraph email telling her about my potential depression because she was wondering why i had’nt been practicing recently, to which i responded “lol im scared and im having a hard time” but i think she’s been dealing with it well and i’m kind of out of my sinkhole so that’s nice…..! 

also i’m rebranding soon (like, new url, new icon etc) so keep ur eyes peeled 👀
